The SSS Balikat ng Bayan Awards was established in 1995 to honor individuals, employers, and organizations that significantly contributed to the SSS’ pursuit of its mandate. Awardees are recognized for their compliance with the provisions of the Social Security Law in terms of coverage and providing benefits, accuracy, and timeliness in their submission of reports, and participation in SSS programs.
The awards were established to promote the people’s service efforts toward social welfare and are given to individuals who have distinguished themselves in providing services to fellow citizens. In addition, they are given to employers who have exhibited outstanding services to their employees, thereby improving work productivity.
The program started at 10 in the morning with The Philippine National Anthem and doxology by the SSS Choral Society, followed by the Opening Remarks of SSS President and CEO, Mr. Michael Regino. He congratulated everyone present and the awardees. He opened the event with all of SSS’s works and contributions for the past 65 years. Mr. Regino gave a very informative speech about SSS’ assistance, especially during the pandemic with their COVID-19 Calamity Law. They will continue to make programs, and transform SSS to be available and more accessible to everyone. His goal is to bring SSS and its services closer to the people and positively impact them. He emphasized that SSS is and forever be the people’s stability and assurance, and affirms the continuing commitment of their workforce. His inspirational speech as commissioner to President and CEO of SSS relates to the guests and shows sincerity and a guarantee of his pledge to us.
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. graced the event and presented the awards for 2022 Balikat ng Bayan. Mr. President was laughing and joking around with DOLE Secretary Bienvenido Leguesma as he approached the podium. He first made a speech before the awarding. Mr. President began by commemorating the 65th anniversary of SSS and its efforts and achievements throughout the six decades. Mentioned as a joke also that he and SSS are the same age hence he will get benefits from them. He then noted that SSS contributors help make the agency force that makes a difference in nation-building and that every Filipino contributor can reap the benefits of their work in the future.
He highlighted the programs they will start since the administration began. First was the implementation of the Contribution Subsidy Provider Program for everyone who is affected by the pandemic and calamities. Also the flexible schemes especially for farmers and fishermen. His priority is to help and reach the Filipino people through this program. He went on with other efforts and programs of SSS that will significantly benefit the people. The agency will provide a safety net to the people.
President Marcos ended the speech by encouraging everyone to embody excellence and put the best interest of the Filipino people above everything else.
He handed awards for several categories, such as Best Collection Partner for Metropolitan Bank and Trust Company. Best Disbursement Partner for Philippine National Bank. Best Media Partner for Print was awarded to Business Mirror, Broadcast for DYBG 97.1 Ben FM, and Media Personality is ms. Hilda C. Ong. Top Employer for Large Accounts for BDO Unionbank Inc.

Mr. Benjamin Diokno, Secretary of Finance and Chairman of the Social Security Commission made a video speech for the awardees, SSS, and guests. He mentioned his expectations of SSS to provide better efforts and programs as they fast-track all improvements during the pandemic that will benefit the Filipino people. He acknowledged all of the achievements and pioneered programs SSS have done for the past 65 years and congratulated them and all awardees.
Awarding of Special Citation Partners was done by Sec. Bienvenido Laguesma with PCEO Michael Regino.
Closing Remarks were given by Atty. Voltaire P. Agas, EVP, Branch Operations Sector and Chairperson, Sub-Committee on Anniversary Program featuring Balikat ng Bayan Awards.
