TRASH!on Extravaganza Brings Creativity, Sustainability, and Inclusivity to the Runway

In a dazzling display of creativity, Tahche hosted its much-anticipated TRASH!on Extravaganza within its office in 1Nito Tower, Cebu City last June 30, 2023. This employee engagement activity brought together the talented employees turned designers and models of Tahche to showcase incredible garments made entirely from recycled materials. Employees of all genders were welcomed to join and walk the runway. As the event venue lit up with vibrant colors and stunning designs, the event not only celebrated the ingenuity of the participants but also raised awareness about environmental sustainability and PRIDE.

Keeping it Exciting: The Judges and Criteria

The judging criteria included 50% for creativity, 20% for presentation, 20% for the wow factor, and 10% for diligence, with the last criterion scored during the creation process prior to the main event. Needless to say, the stage was set for an exhilarating competition.

Our esteemed panel of judges, consisting of Xenia Teresa Lecaros-Lagarnia, Amylene Sy, and Irah De Guzman, brought their diverse expertise and unique perspectives to the table, making the judging process even more thrilling.

Ready, Set, Rampa!

As the models strutted down the runway, the audience was captivated by the sheer ingenuity and beauty of the designs. Let’s take a closer look at some of the remarkable creations:

Raymund Delos Angeles, accompanied by model Janna Getuaban, drew inspiration from the common Filipino practice of using disposable paper plates at parties. His creation aimed to inspire Filipinos to seek sustainable alternatives to reduce the use of single-use paper plates. It was a powerful message wrapped in an exquisite garment.

Cy Jaranilla’s modern Filipiniana dress paid homage to the traditional clothing of the Philippines. The dress, made from a rice sack sprayed in gold, symbolized the bountiful harvest of our Filipino farmers. With intricate details made from crown caps from soda bottles, straw, and dried leaves, Cy showcased the potential of recyclables, creating a beautiful garment that can be used beyond the night and into the days to come.

Marianne Cañete’s creation was a testament to resourcefulness and simplicity. Using packaging plastic from the office, Marianne crafted a classic dress with the vibrant colors Tahche is known for — blue that showcases authority, confidence, and trust, and yellow that keeps things fun, energetic, and attention-grabbing. Through her creation, she hoped to showcase sustainability, social responsibility, and beauty in unexpected places.

After a group walk and a heartwarming walk with the designers, the audience was treated to a captivating video that highlighted the importance of environmental consciousness. The organizers also took this opportunity to announce Tahche’s upcoming employee engagement activities for July, ensuring that the momentum created by the TRASH!on Extravaganza continues to inspire positive change within and beyond the organization.

And the TRASH!ON ICON of 2023 is…

Finally, the moment everyone had been waiting for arrived—the awarding ceremony. Cashlee Paras, with his masterpiece showcasing the beauty of sea life to bring awareness to one of the greatest victims of pollution, was crowned the TRASH!ON ICON. Pierre Lindsey Villarante, who flawlessly modeled Cashlee’s creation, added an extra layer of magic to the winning ensemble with her beauty, attitude, and amazing presentation.

Mary Grace Espinosa, creator and model all at once, claimed the well-deserved second place, impressing the judges with her innovative and colorful design made from trash bags. Meanwhile, Jocelyn Paras, whose creation embodied the issue of single-use plastic packaging, especially in the era of online shopping and delivery, secured the third spot, with her work beautifully showcased by model Apple Sinden.

The TRASH!on Extravaganza was more than just a fashion show; it was a reminder that creativity, sustainability, and inclusivity can go hand in hand. Through events like this, Tahche reaffirms its strong commitment to environmental sustainability and a diverse and inclusive work culture where everyone can shine in a workplace that cares.
